College

Enrolling in a university is a major step in a person’s life. It can be a frightening experience. There are a number of responsibilities that students need to adjust to compared to their last few years. As an experienced college grad, I thought I should share a little knowledge with them.

Find a way to finish as much study work as you can first thing in the morning every single day. Most likely you are at your most productive mentally as soon as you wake up in the morning. That is of course assuming you weren’t out screwing off the night before. Make the most of the clear brain and see how much reading you can get done in the shortest amount of time. It will make the rest of your day go much smoother.

Avoid making the error of scheduling classes too close together. There are going to be times when you want to get something done right before class that you forgot about. You want the extra time. Plus, you don’t want to be in a hurry getting from one class to the next.

You’ll get off to a good head start if you meet some friends in class the first day. Introduce yourself to someone sitting next to you in class. See if you have something in common. You want to have someone you can bounce ideas off of for class or just to ask general questions if the need occurs.

Not all of the students on campus will be honorable. Be sure to get some kind of secure box for your dorm room. You really want to have somewhere secure to store private materials. Without one, you are bound to eventually end up having something come up missing. Then you will be tempted to look for somebody to blame. You’ll never know if it was your fault or if somebody robbed you.

Your studies will take off fast. Take notes the very first day of classes. You may assume the first day to be a breeze. It probably won’t be. Make sure you have your stuff organized. There will likely be some things mentioned that you aren’t going to want to forget.

You should organize certain times to get together with other classmates in all of your major classes for a study group. Don’t go gang busters. You don’t want too many students. You really only want a few. Too many more than that and your study group will turn into a social gathering.

Focus on areas where you will be spending a huge amount of your time. Make your study area in your dorm room as comfortable and well organized as you can. It is extremely important to be well organized. When you are on stress overload because you have got too much work to finish, it will be a lot easier if you’re organized.
