I saw this story on MSN about the BP oil ordeal.
Modern technology is truly amazing. When you stop and think about how complex these machines are and how well built they are. I get to work with computers, but I don’t get to work with advanced heavy machinery and robotics. I just think it is totally amazing that engineers can design and build cool machines that can operate in all kinds of harsh environments. It is no wonder we are able to exploit the earth’s resources as much as we do. Machines like these make it easy to do so.
The best part of it is that all of these machines are ultimately part of a system to provide some benefit to people’s daily lives. It is simply mind blowing to think about how some guy in the middle of nowhere has a job manufacturing parts that become part of a larger assembly, that becomes part of a larger assembly, that eventually becomes part of a machine like this. Ultimately the machine’s purpose is to accomplish a task like extracting natural resources from the earth so that they can be refined so that they can power our automobiles so that the guy working at the place manufacturing that part can have a little better life than he otherwise would.
The economic circle is quite amazing.
